Meet Mary Burke

Problem Solver. Bridge Builder. Active Community Member.

Mary Burke’s commitment to Humboldt County’s 5th District is based on the values of health, community, and collaboration. As a longtime McKinleyville resident, mother, and active community member, she has dedicated her career to strengthening the connections between people, public policy, and the natural world.

With a background in public works operations and over a decade of hands-on experience in watershed and salmon habitat restoration, Mary understands that the future of our communities and landscapes are intertwined. She has served in elected and appointed roles - including on the McKinleyville Community Services District Board of Directors and the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee - to ensure that community needs are translated into action.

Mary’s leadership is guided by a simple belief: the people who live here and the County workforce have what it takes to build a livable, thriving future. She is running for Supervisor to be a part of building a proactive future-facing County government - one that prioritizes community-driven solutions, invests wisely in local infrastructure, and strengthens partnerships with local agencies, community groups, businesses, residents, and Tribal governments.

In her decades of public service, Mary has:

  • Increased public access to our natural treasures
  • Improved vital services in our rural community
  • Advocated to make streets safer and for better access to transit
  • Improved function of public works facilities
  • Restored local salmonid habitat
  • Fought for more self-governance

As Supervisor, Mary will work to:

  • Implement durable community-driven solutions
  • Connect resources for emergency readiness, response and recovery
  • Invest in economic development
  • Strengthen partnerships with Tribal Governments
  • Support the local business sector, NGOs, and community groups
  • Protect and connect to our landscape
